This year is the centenary of the birth of Akira Kurosawa, who passed away in 1998. Kurosawa was born in Tokyo on March 23rd 1910. He was the youngest son in a family of seven children.
In a 60 year-long career, he made more than 30 films, won three major film awards and many international prizes. He labored tirelessly at his art, working on a film until the day before he died. Kurosawa had a unique relationship with his art and was unique among directors of his time.
Kurosawa’s films blend diverse genres and cultures to explore the human condition and the relationship between good and evil.
His film Roshomon was the first film to be shown on Italian television.
